The company operates throughout Queensland and provides services to the offshore oil and gas fields of the North West Shelf. The services offered are diverse, but all have a connection with marine or shipping activity. This includes sand & gravel dredging, oil bunkering, sand drying & manufacturing, tug & barge transport, marine salvage, coastal towing, engineering and maintenance, passenger and car ferries and charters.

 

About the Opportunity

The Commercial Lawyer role is a 6-month opportunity to ensure the Company's legal, insurance and corporate secretarial requirements are met. The role is a unique opportunity to gain experience within a maritime environment, working with our Group General Counsel.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and review a wide range of commercial contracts
  • Assist the General Counsel in the corporate secretariat function
  • Assist the General Counsel in the management of the Company's insurance profile, including claims investigations, WorkCover matters and liaising with external brokers
  • Maintenance of legal and governance registers
  • Review and ensure accuracy of legal policies and procedures
  • Work with business unit General Managers to prepare advice and deliver on ad hoc requests

 

Requirements for the Role

  • Bachelor of Laws
  • Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice
  • 3-5 years PAE in Australia
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Good problem solving and lateral thinking
  • Proven ability to deliver commercial outcomes
  • High level user of MS Office
