Position Purpose

Rivtow Marine is seeking an experienced marine technical professional for the role of Technical Superintendent, reporting to the Lead – Technical Superintendent for its operations in Port Hedland, WA. The successful candidate will be a qualified, industry experienced leader in Maritime Technical Maintenance with experiences across a number of towage vessel types including Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) and Rotor Tugs (RT). A focus on vessel safety, regulatory, industry and classification code compliance and asset reliability are requirements to undertake this role. You will be self-motivated and driven, have a drive and desire to deliver a safe workplace and must thrive on exceeding targets, be focused on and have the abilities to deliver productivity and efficiency improvements to business systems, and be comfortable in a dynamic operating environment with strong abilities to manage multiple and competing business requirements in a timely manner.

Position Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure maximum availability and reliability of all classes of towage vessels to perform the services required, through strong levels of co-ordination and planning with vessel crews
  • Implementation of company Safety Management System, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and continuous improvement thereof
  • Provide a high level of coaching and mentoring to Fleet Engineer contractors in regard to Asset Life-cycle Management and Condition based maintenance
  • Oversee the vessels' continuing Class and Flag State compliance. Co-ordinate and organise the Class and Flag State surveys in a timely manner
  • Take a lead role in coaching vessel crews and shore based Rivtow personnel to a high safety performance level and a strong safety culture
  • Provision of ongoing HSE support to vessels and Rivtow personnel
  • Carry out internal audits of vessel compliance and H&S performance
  • Ensuring vessel maintenance, repairs and modifications comply with Class and Flag State requirements
  • Review and deliver overall fleet maintenance and docking strategy to ensure the most optimal performance and cost-effective strategies are implemented over vessel lifecycle
  • Investigate and recommend spare part holdings for the vessel fleet, taking into account the most optimal and cost-effective strategy for the entire fleet
  • Monitor and recommend improvements to the Planned Maintenance System for the vessels
  • Co-ordinate, justify, manage and report on vessel drydocks and surveys
  • Investigate technical root cause to incident and damage of the vessel and provide the recommendation to repair and prevent reoccurrence 
  • Develop specifications and inspect and report on new projects as required
  • Compiling safety and vessel reliability statistics as required by the Company and its clients
  • Attend client interface meetings
  • Provide support to Lead – Technical Superintendent and other Rivtow team members as required
  • Be available 24/7 for technical input to emergency or safety critical events
  • Managing warranty work as required and ensure the rectification method complies to requirements and regulations

Required qualifications, training and experiences

  1. Tertiary qualification in Marine Engineering and/or Engineer Class 3 qualifications or higher
  2. Minimum 8+ years marine industry maintenance experience or similar role
  3. Contractor management experience in leading and guiding numerous contractor groups
  4. Root Cause Analysis in Incident Investigation / Facilitation qualified e.g. TapRoot, ICAM
  5. ISM / ISO / Class / AMSA regulatory experiences including Lead Audit/Auditor qualification / experience (highly desirable)
  6. Excellent computer skills in the use of database and to IT systems including the Microsoft Office suite of software
  7. Ability to obtain a Marine Security Identification Card (MSIC)
